“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 5:3
Jesus opens His Sermon on the Mount with an incredible revelation. Our strength, power, intelligence, and wealth are not our biggest assets. When it comes to our relationship with God, it is our defenselessness, transparency and humility that draws Him near.
Jesus proclaims that God blesses those who are the poor in spirit and realize their need for Him. Jesus also states that every resource from the Kingdom of Heaven is readily available to us. This means that God blesses people who are intentionally humbled by His presence. We cannot receive the full access and measure of God’s Kingdom without radical humility and dependence on Jesus.
Just imagine what our households would look like! Our homes would overflow with His love, having laid our lives at His feet. There is something so warm and comforting about being loved by a person who loves Jesus. It means that they are willing to give up every right they have to give us the best God has to offer through their heart.
Our marriages will truly thrive and be blessed when we realize how weak, broken, and powerless we are without Jesus.
