Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
-1 Peter 5:8 NIV
We usually tend to get lulled to sleep by the demands of our world. Social media notifications go off at a frenzied pace. The needs of our jobs weigh heavily on our minds. Our families reach for our affection and attention.
Friends, don't feel bad if you have fallen asleep. We've all suffered from burn out. The sad thing is we usually burn out doing "good" things. We wake up early, and try to fit in a workout or healthy breakfast. We read our Bibles and pray. Putting in long hours and dedication, we strive hard to be good employees. It's our goal for our children and spouse to feel loved and appreciated.
For many couples, just finding the time and energy for intimacy after a long day can be one of the day's biggest challenges.
Even for Christians, life can have difficulties. Even the most devout are not exempt from this
In our society, a fast-paced lifestyle has become the new normal. If we're not careful, we may miss the small details that can help or hurt our lives. We may have a lot of important things to keep up with, but we need to remember to not get so carried away that we become distracted. Missing these details leads to falling prey to the enemy and becoming unresponsive to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
This scripture reminds us of the importance of being alert. If we're unaware of His Presence, we can't have His Peace. If we don't rest in His arms, we are easy prey to burnout and temptation. If we don't remember that He died so that we may eternally live, then we're not truly alive.
Jesus loves you so much that He wants to take all the unnecessary distractions away. He wants what is best for you and your family, in ways you cannot begin to imagine! He wants to walk alongside you and give you the grace and victory that are yours as His child.
If we want to receive the best of everything Christ has to offer us, we must remember to always stay alert!
