Many young women and men are encouraged by the world to chase after things with zero eternal value. From money to casual sex, many of these pursuits promise a quick high and zero lasting satisfaction.
We have both been "hidden" in things of no value. From damaging relationships to surrendering to the flesh.
"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." - Colossians 3:2-3
Individually and together, a godly couple are working to be transformed into Christ's image. Many of the fleshly failures that cause a marriage to fall apart will not be present.
A couple following Christ will be seeking God's perspective and trying to live their lives according to His will. Fortunately, this eliminates many power struggles and selfish motives that cause many marriages to fall apart.
When a man is truly seeking after Jesus, he will find his motives and desires purified. The Cross becomes his standard for acts of love and self denial. Christ will lead a man according to God's will for his life. This in turn will lead him to be a husband and father after God's own heart.
Christ reveals that a man's place is leading and stabilizing, as a servant.
With a man of character and integrity, a wife can build a home of warmth that will not fall. The strength of a man who belongs to Christ, will set a woman free to discover her beauty and purpose in Christ. As this beauty and feminine grace blossoms, so the strength and drive of the man intensifies.
This cycle of service and respect is exactly what Jesus uses to keep marriages together. It is a matter of both people seeking after Christ, praying together, and embracing their roles as God longs for.
Take some time today to think and reflect. How is God working in your marriage today? How do the roles of you and your spouse compliment each other to make your relationship successful? If not, what are some ways you could improve?
